A Striking Difference - Week 1
What if one of the most powerful things we could do as followers of Christ is simply refuse to strike back? In this message, we dig into Matthew 5:38-47, where Jesus challenges the deeply human instinct to retaliate when we feel wounded, disrespected, or diminished. The teaching does not ask us to be passive or weak. Instead, it calls us to something far more demanding: a higher moral standard rooted in love, trust, and genuine faith. We explore how the Old Testament principle of an eye for an eye was never meant to fuel revenge but to limit it, establishing justice and fairness as the boundary of any response. Jesus then moves us beyond even that, inviting us into a way of living that looks so radically different from the world around us that it becomes a living demonstration of the gospel itself. When we absorb an injury and respond with kindness, we are not losing. We are reflecting the character of Christ in a way that words alone never could. This message challenges us to ask honestly whether the people in our lives can see Christ in us, not because of what we say, but because of what we refuse to do.
