Raised In A Barn - Week 4

Jun 21, 2026    Pastor Alex Gomez

This powerful message challenges us to examine what we're allowing into our homes and lives, using the familiar phrase 'Were you raised in a barn?' as a spiritual metaphor. Drawing from Ezekiel 22, we're reminded that God's people are called to be holy and set apart, demonstrating to the world who God is through how we live. The sermon confronts a sobering reality: just as ancient Romans practiced horrific child abandonment, we today are still handing our children over to be raised by the streets through unrestricted access to social media, influencers, and entertainment that contradicts biblical values. The core teaching centers on three essential roles men are called to fulfill, modeled after Jesus as the Good Shepherd in John 10. First, we must be pastors of our homes, leading our families spiritually through prayer, Scripture reading, and making God central to daily life. Second, we must be protectors, actively shielding our families from spiritual dangers by monitoring what enters through technology and media. Third, we must be providers, not just financially but personally, giving ourselves and our time to those we love. The transformative truth here is that none of this is possible without first submitting to Jesus as our Good Shepherd. When we build our lives on Him, following His teachings and abiding in His presence, our homes can withstand the floods of cultural pressure. This isn't about condemnation but about accepting the noble calling God has given us to stand in the gap for our families.
