Thirsty - Week 1
This powerful message confronts us with a startling truth: we've been drinking from broken wells while the fountain of living water stands freely available. Drawing from Jeremiah 2:11-13, we're challenged to examine the cracked cisterns we've dug in our lives—those inadequate sources we turn to for satisfaction, intimacy, peace, and purpose. The imagery is visceral: imagine abandoning fresh, flowing spring water to drink instead from stagnant pits filled with mud, debris, and decay. Yet this is exactly what we do when we seek to meet our God-given desires through worldly means. The tragedy isn't that we have thirsts—God placed those longings for love, significance, pleasure, and peace within us. The tragedy is that we've abandoned the fountain and exhausted ourselves digging alternatives that never satisfy. We labor harder maintaining our sins, hiding our habits, and feeding our addictions than we would simply drawing near to God. The invitation echoes throughout Scripture: anyone who is thirsty, come and drink freely. The fountain hasn't moved; we have. And we're only one step of repentance away from returning to the water that truly satisfies.
