The Pilgrimage of Faith - Week 1

Jan 18, 2026    Pastor Fred Massie

The Christian life is fundamentally a journey, a pilgrimage from one spiritual place to another. This message explores the profound truth that faith itself is not a single moment but an ongoing pilgrimage, beginning with Abraham's remarkable story in Genesis. We see how God called Abraham to leave everything familiar and venture into the unknown, promising descendants as numerous as the stars despite Abraham being 75 years old and childless. What makes this story so powerful is how God tested Abraham's faith repeatedly over decades, culminating in the ultimate test on Mount Moriah where Abraham was willing to sacrifice his son Isaac, believing God could even raise him from the dead. This wasn't blind obedience but mature, tested faith that had grown through years of waiting, struggling, and trusting. The message challenges us to examine our own faith journey: Do we have casual faith or saving faith? Are we willing to follow God even when it costs us everything? The distinction matters eternally, as demonstrated by those who appear faithful but eventually walk away, proving they never truly belonged. True saving faith endures through suffering, persecution, and even death itself. Our pilgrimage of faith isn't about earning salvation through works but demonstrating the authenticity of our trust in God through our willingness to obey Him completely, no matter the cost.
