Get Off The Mat - Week 2

May 17, 2026    Pastor Fred Massie

This powerful message centers on the profound truth found in Proverbs 24:16: a righteous person may fall seven times but rises again. The significance of the number seven throughout Scripture reveals God's complete and perfect work in our lives. From creation's seven days to the Israelites marching around Jericho seven times, this number represents totality and completeness. When we understand that a righteous person falls seven times, we recognize God is saying that no matter how completely we fail, no matter the totality of our mistakes and struggles, He will always be there to help us rise again. The sermon explores the story of the paralyzed man at the Pool of Bethesda who waited 38 years for healing. Jesus asked him a penetrating question: Do you want to be made well? This challenges us to examine whether we truly desire transformation or have become comfortable on our mat of excuses. Time does not heal what we refuse to address. We must participate in our healing, stop making excuses, and make a decision before we can experience deliverance. The message reminds us that we cannot allow ourselves to be defined by our problems. In Christ, we are new creations, and God continually works to make all things new in our lives. We are in a spiritual battle against the world, the flesh, and the devil, but God's grace is sufficient for every fall, every failure, every moment we need to rise again.
